The ethos of the home is one where service users are encouraged, as far as is possible, to take responsibility for their own lives. A good example of this is the provision of the ‘flat’ at the top of the home where those who are able to can have more independence. There is a comfortable sitting room with television and a kitchen suitably equipped so that these residents are able to make their own hot drinks and prepare breakfasts, with support from staff where needed. 6 Albion Terrace B51 B01 S124 V246165 6 Albion Terrace 240805 Stage 4.doc Version 1.40 Page 11 Personal and Healthcare Support The intended outcomes for Standards 18 - 21 are: 18. 19. 20. 21. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for standard(s) 18 and 19 Personal support is provided in the way residents prefer it, and staff are good at meeting both physical and emotional health needs. It was clear that those arriving home were pleased to see care staff, who were welcoming to their residents and interested in hearing about their day. Much of the support provided at Strathallen is emotional, and again it was clear that staff try to ensure that they are positive and encouraging in the way they provide care. Where a higher level of emotional or psychological support is required, staff work with appropriate professionals in order to try to ensure that care needs are met. 6 Albion Terrace B51 B01 S124 V246165 6 Albion Terrace 240805 Stage 4.doc Version 1.40 Page 12 Concerns, Complaints and Protection The intended outcomes for Standards 22 – 23 are: 22. 23. The flat, which is used by three service users, is particularly designed to promote, maximise and increase independence and those using this facility were very happy to be there.
