What the care home does well

Medication is stored, administered and recorded appropriately. Residents are protected from abuse by the home`s recruitment procedure. The views of residents and their families are sought regarding the service provided. Residents` health and safety are promoted.

No person to be admitted to the home in categories LD/DE when 2 persons of categories LD/DE are already accommodated in the home. 24th May 2005 Date of last inspection Brief Description of the Service: 9 Grace Road is situated in a quiet area on the outskirts of Leicester, close to a variety of community amenities and transport links. The home provides care and support to seventeen adults who have a learning disability in addition to communication difficulties, physical disabilities, dementia and/or sensory impairment. Each resident accesses day care, either via a college, a day centre or the homes own provision. The home has bright and comfortable communal areas, fully equipped bath/shower rooms and a large, enclosed garden. Residents are accommodated in single bedrooms apart from two that are happy to share. Communal areas are on the ground floor and the first floor with access via two staircases and a lift. The communal areas consist of a large, attractive lounge/dining room, two day-care rooms and a sensory room. The home also has a “training kitchen.” The house is pleasantly decorated and furnished. This was the second statutory unannounced inspection this year and focussed on those National Minimum Standards not inspected last time. A resident and a member of staff spoke with the inspector. Records were also examined. The inspection took place over approximately four hours; the sister home opposite was inspected at the same time. All new recruits are required to provide two satisfactory references and a clear CRB check. EVIDENCE: Residents’ files contained copies of questionnaires that their families had completed. The home’s manager stated that residents’ views are sought through the review process. The inspector examined records relating to health and safety such as fire records and risk assessments.
