What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by staff who work for the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organizations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us the AQAA. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the care home is still providing a good service to people they support, and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA told us that the bedrooms in the home have been redecorated in the last 12 months, and a new relaxation room has been created. The carpets have recently been replaced and the laundry area has been renovated and updated as required. It also told us that the service has good staff retention and is using less agency staff. The management team have recently completed their National Vocational Qualification (level 4) in Health and Social Care. The AQAA informed us that there have been no complaints received by the service. We were also informed that all the care plans have been updated to reflect a person centred approach, and to identify specific goals for individuals and how they might attain them. There is now a quality management system which takes into account the views and opinions of people who live at 9 Grace Road, and those of their families. We received three surveys back from people who live at 9 Grace Road who were supported by a key worker in completing the survey. Two of the three felt that they could do what they wanted during the day, evening and week-ends, with the other respondent not feeling they could do what they wanted during the day and evening. All Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 said that they knew who to talk to if they were not happy, and felt that staff treated them well. All said that carers listen and act on what they say. One person told us that they get choice and go out a lot, another said they would like to go out more. We had three responses from staff working at 9 Grace Road. All three were positive about the support they received from management, and felt there was usually enough staff to meet the needs of people who use the service. One member of staff said I feel the home runs well with a person-centred focus and approach as the priority for each individual service user. One member of staff when asked what the home could do better commented organisation with shopping. We received three responses from social and health care professionals. All felt the service was providing good care to people living at 9 Grace Road. One professional said when asked what the home does well effective communication regarding clients who I am involved with, another said I think the service provided by this home is very good and to a high standard. We have not received any notifications to inform us of issues that have impacted on the care of people using the service. We at the CQC have not received any complaints or concerns about the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 21st September 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
