Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: We visited the home to check compliance against a statutory requirement notice [SRN] issued relating to medicines management. The service was required to have the following in place by the 20th April 2009: i) Have a system in place to ensure that all people using the service receive their medication as prescribed by their GP at all times with clear documented evidence for medication doses that are changed and a record made of the person authorizing the changes ii) Ensure that complete and accurate records are available in the home relating to each service users medication profile and the administration of medicines and treatments prescribed by their GP at all times. iii)Ensure all guidelines for the administration of medication to service users are clear, up to date and give specific instructions to staff that accurately reflect the support service users require with medication, including that which is prescribed to be taken as required. Our investigations found that the home had met all of the above requirements. All MAR charts checked were accurately completed and gave a clear medication profile and treatment history. Any medicines given only when needed had guidelines for staff giving specific information on the use of these medicines. Any medicines which were self administered had documented risk assessments. Changes made to doses were marked on the MAR charts although on occasions it was noted that this record was not initialed by the person making the record.
