What the care home does well

The manager has begun to change the format for care planning and those plans we saw which had been updated were well recorded and contained detailed information. We spoke with the family of a resident who had been admitted to hospital and they said the care which had been provided was very good. Standards of cleanliness in bathrooms and toilets have improved since the last inspection. Redecoration is underway and the areas of the home which have already been refurbished look very attractive. The food store in the basement has been completely cleared and cleaned and a new office has been created in another part of the basement.

What the care home could do better:

The provision for activities and stimulation for residents in the home continues to need improving although more events have been provided including a successful party, which relatives were invited to. When more care staff are recruited, this should enable more staff time and thought to be given to this important area. The residents all said they enjoy the food provided but a wider choice should be offered at each meal, and especially at tea time to comply with current nutrition guidelines. Fridge and freezer temperatures are being recorded but some of these were not accurate. Records of food temperature checks need to be recorded. Evidence of the work status and training records for a new member of staff need clarifying.

The manager has been introducing improvements to all areas of the home. During the visit we were provided with an action plan which detailed the refurbishment plans for the home.
