Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? Date quality rating was made 23/05/2007 Date by which we will do a key inspection 23/05/2010 Date of last annual service review 17/09/2008 Date of last key inspection 23/05/2007 We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service, but has not outlined any plans for improvement in the year to come. The AQAA does not tell us about plans for improvement. The home provides a service for people who have a wide range of needs including dementia and learning disability. It is important that the service reviews the quality of its support in line with peoples changing needs and in line with good practice guidance, and is able to demonstrate plans for improvement each year. The AQAA tells us the home manager and staff meets regularly with people who live there so they can seek their views on how to improve the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 The AQAA tells us about improvements they have made in the past year. These include: Recruitment of staff so they can offer one to one support More activities in the community Greater use of professional advice where peoples care needs have changed. People using the service and their representatives sent us some surveys telling us about the home. People say that the home is clean, the food is good and they know how to complain if there is a problem. People say they can usually make decisions about what they do each day. Comments include: I like in house activities, snooker, walking and day trips etc, I like the food, the cooking, meals, breakfast, I am happy with the home as it is at the moment, helps me with my money and washing and my bed, nice friends to meet, the meals are fantastic, there isnt anything they could do better, staff have training in dementia and I have a dementia nurse, I like the garden, decoration of my room, I like the food, very nice, I like the cooked breakfast at the weekend, I am happy living at Arden House, its a nice home, I like the birds in the garden, the fish in the pond and the dogs, the meals are enjoyable and good quality, we dont worry about X as we have every confidence in the manager, the home does everything well as far as I know , looks after Xs entire needs and makes sure he has a happy life, its a wonderful place for X, this place is without doubt second to none, they are kind concerned people, if I cant get to see X they bring him to see me, wonderful, caring people Staff tell us they have the right support and training to do their jobs and have the proper background checks before they start work. Comments from staff include: the home supports the residents with day placements, activities, entertainment, staff training is current, encouragement toward continual development of staff and residents, making sure residents individualised needs are met which keeps them active and out in the community, staff try to work as a team and give residents the best of care, healthy well cooked meals, and an environment they all enjoy, residents have regular trips out into the community and meet their friends on a regular basis.
