CSCI found this care home to be providing an Adequate service.

Date of last inspection Brief description of the care home Ashlea House is registered to provide accommodation for up to 3 adults with a learning disability and admits people with low to medium dependencies. Nexus Direct (a partnership) operates the home.There is currently no registered manager.An acting manager is in day to day control. The service is set up to support younger adults to Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 7 0 4 0 9 2 0 0 8 Brief description of the care home move into greater independence. It aims to provide opportunities for risk and responsibility taking and personal development. The home works closely with other Nexus Direct establishments and acts as a home that people aspire to live in. The home is not suitable for people who have mobility problems. The property is a detached house in a semi-rural setting, but only minutes walk away from local amenities. A public bus service is available a short walk away, but the home has a dedicated car for resident use. Access to town is a short drive away. All bedrooms are single occupancy. There is one bathroom / WC and a separate toilet. Information on the current scale of charges, previous reports and the action plan for improvements can be obtained from the home. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 7 What we found: We visited Ashlea House unannounced regarding requirements made at the last two inspections (10/09/07 and 4/09/08) in respect of providers visits under Regulation 26 of the Care Homes Regulations 2001. Following the inspection on 4/09/08 a management review meeting was held and subsequently a letter was sent to the providers from the Business Relationship Manager. The completion of the requirement was due on 30/11/08. This visit was to check compliance with the requirement. A member of staff gave us a folder labelled Regulation 26. We saw that reports were in place dated 10/11/08, 4/12/08, 13/01/09 and 18/2/09. These visits were carried out by a representative of the providers (Supervisory Manager). The folder also contained a copy of our guidance relating to visits under Regulation 26. The format for these reports covered the following areas:- Service Users (SUs) present; SUs interviewed; Comments on lounge area; Comments on kitchen area; Comments on SUs bedrooms; Comments on bathrooms and toilet areas; Car park and garden; Staff areas; Regulation 37s; Complaints; Paperwork viewed - Day Reports; Care Plans; Client Files; Incident Reports; Budget Controls; SUs monies; Medication; Fire checks; Company vehicles; Staff files; Induction and supervision; General Comments and Actions required. No other requirements were assessed at this visit.
