What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assessment Assurance (AQAA) that was sent to us by this service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. Any surveys that have been returned to us from people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service manages any complaints. What the management has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and any results from visits that we may have made to the service in the past twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. Any information from other people about the service. What has this told us about the service? The Manager of the home has completed the AQAA in the timescale requested. The detail in this document gives a full picture of the service and the aims to improve over the next twelve months. Clear information gives us a picture of the person centred care offered to each resident. It tells us that new formats of care plans are being used that has information recorded about the persons life, past and present, ensuring that their person centred care is correctly planned and delivered. The AQAA tells us that to make sure the correct care is being given a monthly review of the care plan takes place with a more comprehensive 6 monthly review, involving any people involved with that resident, take part. The Manager also tells us that the home is constantly reviewing the quality of the service provided by issuing surveys and the results are evaluated and acted upon. Communication is also in the form of a regular newsletter that is issued to each resident and also on display in the entrance to the home. We are also told that the home is working on different ways of communication to ensure, when building the persons care plan, that their choices are taken into consideration when communication may be difficult, with the introduction of choice cards. Staff are supported by a Manager and Deputy Manager, (who has covered the period of maternity leave) well. Training is planned and a matrix is in place to ensure all training is offered. The staff tell us that there were some concerns on the way an infectious outbreak was handled but generally the support for one to one supervision and day to day support is managed well. Residents comments received (22 in total) have been completed with the support of Age Concern Volunteers. Although the environment, we are told, could be better, such Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 as better carpets and bathrooms generally the care is good. Comments such as I feel happy and comfortable with caring and understanding staff to support me, excellent home that I cannot praise highly enough, staff are good but could do with more for one to one time. The home does have an activities staff member and residents do tell us they enjoy the activities but would like to get out more often. We are told that the home now has an improved bathing facility with a walk in shower and that residents have been listened to when changing and decorating rooms is scheduled. Key workers assist the resident in making their own room as homely and personalised as possible. One comment received tells us that the indepth cleaning in rooms could be better and that laundry is sometimes lost or damaged. No complaints or concerns have been received and the home has reported to the Commission notifications that are appropriate under Regulation 37. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to carry out an Inspection by 07/01/11. However, we may carry out an Inspection at any time if information received gives us concern. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
