What did we do for this annual service review? A telephone discussion took place with the Manager, who had completed a detailed Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). All service users returned a survey form, which had been completed with some staff support. Information received regarding the service over the past 12 months was reviewed. What has this told us about the service? Information received for this review indicates that Carlton Gate continues to provide a good service. The Manager confirms that steps have been taken to further develop a person centred service that meets the needs of people living at the home, who are in an older age group. Staff have worked closely with health care colleagues to support people to access health care services. Particular attention has been paid to dental care with oral health action plans completed for all service users in conjunction with the PCT dental service. Staff are working closely with the local learning disability team to support one service user who presents challenges. Additional staffing has been agreed, including night staff when required, to meet her needs. Training has been provided for staff by the multi professional learning disability team to support staff to understand and to manage her behaviour. The service has kept CQC informed regarding incidents affecting the welfare of service users and the Manager confirms that staff have received training in safeguarding adults. Refresher training has been arranged for 3 staff at the end of October. An accessible complaints procedure has been introduced, making it easier for service users to raise issues. A relatively large number of complaints have been received by the Manager in the past 12 months, although the majority relate to one issue. In their feedback, service users were positive about the service. There were two requirements from the last inspection, which the Manager indicates have been met. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Information reviewed indicates that Carlton Gate continues to provide a good service and that there is no reason to bring forward the date of the next key inspection.
