Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how well the service has managed any concerns or complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report dated 22nd June 2007 and the homes last ASR dated 20th June 2008 Relevant information received from other organisations about the service. What other people have told us about the service. We had a brief discussion with the Registered Manager to clarify points raised in the AQAA and to further update us. What has this told us about the service? This is the second annual service review of this home and was undertaken on the 16th June 2009. Champions Place was first awarded the quality rating of Excellent following their last Key unannounced Inspection of the 22nd June 2007. In preparation for this annual service review the home completed and returned their AQAA (annual quality assurance assessment) when we asked for it. The document was comprehensive and detailed and provided us with a good picture of what was actually happening in the home. It identified areas where the service had improved in the last year and others where further developments were being planned. It included evidence that the service regularly seeks the views of the people who live in the home to inform their planning. For example, the AQAA records that as a direct result of listening to people who use the service, all residents have been provided with new digital televisions in their bedrooms, which the manager records they are very happy with. One resident requested that they would like to take a holiday touring America and Canada. The manager records that both the resident and the key worker who accompanied them, had a fantastic time. This years AQAA once again records that residents have had a say in planning the homes regular activity programme. The manager records....Our principal aim is to provide our clients with a quality service that will accord them a comfortable and fulfilled standard of living. Our standard of care will remain at the highest level as long as we are able to sustain it without compromise. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 The last key inspection report was very positive about the service provided at the home. There were however some areas for improvement. Four good practice recommendations were made. The manager confirmed in her previous AQAA that all four issues raised in the report have now been addressed. The AQAA records that the homes refurbishment programme continues as planned. Areas in the house, which includes service corridors, have been redecorated with residents continuing to have a say about the colours that are used. A new glass roof and door has been put on the homes small conservatory. A new TV aerial system has been installed, which makes the residents TV reception much better. New bolts have been put on the front door which has increased the safety and security of people living in the home. There are plans over the next twelve months to build a new patio area at the rear of the property. Environmental improvements listed in the AQAA clearly evidence that residents continue to be provided with a safe, homely and very attractive place to live that meets their individual and collective needs. The home makes contact with the commission if there are any significant events that affect the well being of the people who live there. The home also has strategies in place to ensure that those who live there and those that visit can make their views and complaints known. In the last 12 months no formal complaints have been received by the home. Our records indicate that there have been no complaints made to us about the home. In addition there have been no adult protection alerts in which the home or the CQC have been involved. Robust staff recruitment procedures are in place, which also ensure that residents are safe and protected from any potential for harm. Services that provide social care must be sensitive to people of different cultures, age, gender, faith and sexual orientation. Throughout the homes annual quality assurance assessment, it was clear that equality and diversity issues are consistently being promoted by the manager and incorporated within the service. The home takes the training and development of staff very seriously and looks for individuals who are able to undertake all aspects of mandatory training and prove competency at NVQ Level 2 or above. The AQAA records the home exceed the 50 standard required for trained staff on duty rosters, which further ensures that the home safeguards the welfare of residents. The manager records.....At Champions Place we pride ourselves on having a staff team who are devoted to our residents and who go beyond the call of duty to support everyone living at the home. The manager records her plans for ensuring that all staff becomes familiar with The Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards this year. This will ensure that she and her staff are aware of new legislation and the good practice demands placed upon them. The home continues to work well with us and have clearly evidenced that the service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 There will be no change to our current inspection plan. A key unannounced inspection will be undertaken of this service by the 22nd June 2010. Annual Service Review Page 6 of 7 Reader Information
