We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. This included; The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service such as how many staff work in the home. Information we have about how the service have managed any complaints or allegations. What the service has told us about anything that has happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us lots of good information. It told us that the service was continuing to look for ways to improve and develop all aspects of provision. Care homes are required by law to notify us of certain incidents or events that happen in homes, this helps us to monitor services on an on-going basis. Our records show that the manager and senior staff make sure that we are told about all of the things that happen in the home and how they have been managed. These are called Regulation 37 notices. In the past twelve months our records show that we have been notified of eleven such events. We spoke with the acting manager who confirmed that there had been eleven notifiable incidents during the previous twelve months. The last inspection report shows that at the time of our visit, people were receiving good quality outcomes. We found that there were good assessments and care plans in place for each person and a variety of activities to enhance peoples daily living. The AQAA tells us We have appointed an activities co-ordinator who has introduced a varied and specific activities schedule in accordance to residents wishes that have been identified from a recent coffee social meeting. At our last visit to the service we made a requirement for the service to ensure that their fire risk assessment must be kept under review and all fire safety records be maintained in order to promote the health and safety of people living at the service. We also made two recommendations relating to the homes statement of purpose and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 meeting targets relating to staff achieving National Vocational Qualifications. Our recent information tells us that these have been implemented. We have set up our own NVQ Centre which has been registered with ASET. We have appointed a dedicated training co-ordinator to formalise, monitor and evaluate the training needs of Ernehale staff and to establish a training matrix. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? As a result of this Annual Service Review we are not going to change our inspection plan. The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fess and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed.
