Conditions of registration: 1. One named individual whose date of birth is 22/09/1949 and who has a diagnosed mental disorder is permitted to remain in this home. That person may occupy one of the three places allocated to adults with a learning disability. 8th August 2005 Date of last inspection Brief Description of the Service: Evelyn House is a small residential care home situated in Tottenham North London, near to A10 the North Circular Rd and close to Tottenham High Rd and Wood Green shopping centre, New River sports centre and Alexandra Park are close by. Evelyn House has a lounge area, a kitchen and a small toilet and bathroom that is situated on the first floor. The home is registered to provide 24-hour care for up to three service users with learning disabilities between the ages of 18 and 65 and of mixed gender. Evelyn house was first registered in October 2001 with Haringey Inspection Unit as a small care home. The registered provider is Mrs Evelyn McVeigh. As the home was not operating at the time of this inspection, it was not possible to gain information about the fees for service user placements. Following “Inspecting for Better Lives” the provider must make information available about the service, including inspection reports, to service users and other stakeholders. Evelyn House DS0000010793.V316471.R01.S.doc Version 5.2 Page 5 SUMMARY
This is an overview of what the inspector found during the inspection. This inspection was undertaken on an unannounced inspection, although the inspector did attempt to contact the registered person in order to discuss the current status of the service and the future plans of the registered person for the service. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this report the registered person had not responded. Although registered with the Commission as a care home for people with learning disabilities, Evelyn House is not operating as a care home. At the last inspection, a gentleman who lived there told the inspector, that rooms were being rented separately. Upon arriving at the home on this occasion the inspector met a lady who had difficulty in speaking English, and was reluctant to allow the inspector admission. It was evident that the rooms continue to be rented out on a commercial basis. Therefore, it was neither possible, nor relevant to review any of the National Minimum Standards at this visit. What the service does well: What has improved since the last inspection? What they could do better: Please contact the provider for advice of actions taken in response to this inspection. The report of this inspection is available from enquiries@csci.gsi.gov.uk or by contacting your local CSCI office. The summary of this inspection report can be made available in other formats on request. Evelyn House DS0000010793.V316471.R01.S.doc Version 5.2 Page 6 DETAILS OF INSPECTOR FINDINGS CONTENTS
