Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? The home was registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection in 2007. It is a medium size residential home which is owned by Avvsim Care and managed by Elaine Sparks. The home was last inspected on 29/5/2008 where the home was found to provide good outcomes for residents. No regulatory action has been taken against the provider to indicate that the provider is unfit to manage a care home. The registered provider has complied with the responsibilities of a registered provider within this service. We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys sent out to residents and staff: Recent surveys received from residents stated that residents were satisfied with the home in general, that staff were friendly, care was good, rooms are clean, tidy and comfortable and there was a good choice of meals. Staff in the surveys returned said that good staff support was in place and that there was a good caring team of staff to assist residents with the only suggestions being to provide better seating outside with a shelter for smokers and improve the decor of the home, which management said that this was going to happen. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints: There have been two complaints made to the Commission for Social Care Inspection since the last inspection. Relevant information has been received from another organisation which involved a concern following an accident to a resident. This was investigated by the local Adult Care Department and not found to be an issue. There is also a current issue regarding residents care which is being investigated by Adult Care and a Meeting i held to discuss issues arising. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service: These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. There have been notifications regarding relevant issues sent to the Care Quality Commission which were seen to be properly dealt with by the management of the service. The previous key inspection. There were two Requirements made in this Report, which involved medication management. No other visits have been made to the service in the last 12 months. What has this told us about the service? The Registered Manager sent us the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). The AQAA gave us information on the information we asked for including information as to Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 the essential policies and procedures that need to be in place for the proper running of the home. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is aware of how to provide a good service and has an awareness of all issues that need to be considered as to the proper running of the home. The Manager has identified a number of improvements that will be made to the service - refurbishment of the home to include fitting radiator covers to fully protect residents from the risk of being burned etc. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment also confirmed that all policies and procedures have been reviewed. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do an additional random inspection as there have been issues raised in this review regarding residents care.
