What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key Inspection which took place on the 27th June 2007. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA), which was sent to us by the service. This is a self assessment that focuses on how well the outcomes are being met for people using the service. What the service has told us about the things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. A telephone call to the manager to find out about any further improvements or issues since the AQAA was submitted however the manager was not available but we spoke with a team leader who told us that there are no concerns or issues within the home at the moment. They told us that the home is currently being fully refurbished which will be completed by December 2009. We sent surveys to 8 people who live at the home to find out their views on what it is like to use the service. We sent 2 surveys to professionals who work with this service, however none were returned. We also sent surveys to 10 staff to get their views about the service. The out come of this is included in the report. What has this told us about the service? We received surveys back from three people who live in the home who said they provide you with your own room in a nice, warm comfortable environment where the staff are always friendly. I have lived here 15 years and am very happy, I have no complaints. Another person said I have a nice room, good meals and friendly staff. Those who completed the survey told us that they know how to make a complaint and that the staff treat them well. We received surveys back from three staff. Comments included I enjoy working in Franklins Lodge, the manager and staff are very supportive. Also they provide up to date training and staff are encouraged to constantly reflect on their own practise. We provide a holistic approach and encourage a sense of independence and choice for the residents . We asked staff what the home could do better? They said more night staff are needed and better communication. We looked at the information provided on the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This had been completed by the manager which told us how the peoples needs are being met. The AQAA told us that some improvements have been made in the last 12 months including: A resident committee meeting has been set up. During the first meeting the Philosophy of Care was reviewed. Residents have completed lifestyle and interests forms. The welcome pack has been reviewed by staff and residents. Residents have more Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 involvement in their care plans, some areas of the home have been refurbished and their are improved quality assurance systems in place. The manager told us that the service has not received any complaints and there has not been any Adult Safeguarding investigations. As far as we know, the home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. The service continues to operate well and they have shown us that they continue to provide good outcomes for the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We can inspect Franklins Lodge at any time if we have any concerns about the care, welfare or safety of the people living there. There is nothing to currently indicate that an inspection is required in the immediate future. The next key Inspection of Franklins Lodge will be undertaken by the end of June 2010 unless information is received that suggests an earlier one is necessary.
