Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found:
This random unannounced inspection was carried out to monitor general standards of care and accommodation, because a concern had been brought to our attention and is the subject of separate investigation. We arrived in the home at 14:00 on 9 April 2009. We toured the home and spoke to a number of residents and some visitors. All the people we spoke to expressed their satisfaction with Greenbushes; in particular the good quality of meals was commented on, and the kind willingness of staff to provide help whenever it was needed. The home was clean and comfortable, being suitably furnished and in good decorative order. There were no unpleasant smells. Residents were in various locations around the home, according to their preference and circumstance. For example, some people who were frail and unwell were in bed, or seated in their bedrooms, and others had chosen to spend time in their bedrooms. Residents were also seen to be using the two ground floor lounges, and the first floor lounge. Staff were discreetly attending to residents needs and residents told us that when they summon help via the call system they do not have to wait long until a nurse or care worker arrives. We examined the care records of some residents and found they were well written, providing staff with the information they need to care for the residents, and also providing evidence that residents are properly care for by skilled and competent staff. We talked to the deputy manager about staffing levels and examined staffing rotas for the week during which this inspection took place, and for the following week which included the Easter weekend. This indicated that staffing levels are provided in accordance with the assessed needs of residents to ensure that at all times sufficient staff are available to properly meet their needs.
