This is an overview of what the inspector found during the inspection. The inspection took place on Tuesday 20th December 2005 from 11.45am to 2.pm. The inspector spoke to 7 residents during the visit. All members of staff on duty also took part in the inspection. The atmosphere in the home was warm, welcoming and friendly. Residents were relaxed, content and spoke highly of the care they received in the home. The inspector looked around the home and a number of records were inspected. Service users’ health care needs are fully met. Service users, where appropriate, are responsible for their own medication, and are protected by the home’s policies and procedures for dealing with medicines. Service users feel they are treated with respect and their right to privacy is upheld. Service users are assured that at the time of their death, staff will treat them and their family with care, sensitivity and respect. The Commission considers Standards 7, 8, 9 and 10 the key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for the following standard(s): Op 7, 8 & 10 Resident’s health and social care needs are well met and promoted by good planning arrangements. Resident’s privacy and dignity are met and promoted by the staff and management team. EVIDENCE: Records are properly kept for each resident. They include good guidance on help needed with mobility and risk of falls. The home promotes resident’s welfare in co-operation with families and health care professionals. A requirement was made at the last inspection that plans include a photograph of individual residents. The owners responded to this promptly and all plans now include an up to date photograph of individual residents. Staff showed clear respect for residents’ privacy, for example they knocked on bedroom doors and waited to be asked in before entering. The home promotes residents’ welfare in co-operation with families and health care professionals. One resident said “ I am very happy in this home and I think that we all receive excellent care. Service users receive a wholesome appealing balanced diet in pleasing surroundings at times convenient to them. The Commission considers all of the above key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for the following standard(s): Op 15. Meals are well managed, nutritious and provide variation and for people living in the home. EVIDENCE: Residents spoken to said that the ‘food is good’ and that although the menu does not offer a choice the cook tells them what is on the menu daily and if they don’t want, or like, it they are offered an alternative. Menus showed a varied, balanced and nutritious diet. The meal on the day of inspection reflected this.
