Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? This annual service review was started on 24th September 2009 and included a review of information that the Commission has received about the service since the last key standards inspection in September 2007. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that The Hollies is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent out questionnaires to people who use the service and to staff who work at the home. We received 13 responses from people who use the service and 8 responses from staff. The responses from people who use the service were generally very positive about the care they receive. We asked residents what the home does well, Comments included: Friendly and homely atmosphere. Helpful staff. Good food. Everything in my opinion Helpful manager. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Everything is fine. They do all the things I need and I can go to bed when I want to. Staff are very caring and look after me well. Very clean and tidy. Privacy is respected but help is on call if necessary. When we asked residents what the home could do better three respondents commented: Wait a long time for a cup of tea. Improve the food. More staff if possible. Responses from staff were also very positive about the home. Comments included: The Hollies is a home that welcomes people from all walks of life. The manager and owners treat their staff very well. The Hollies is such a pleasant place to work and with the sense of humour of the manager makes it such a lovely place to work. When we asked staff what the home could do better three respondents commented: More staff at weekends. A home owned van would be a valuable advantage. We spoke with the registered manager and she told us the home was running well and that she had no concerns about the service. The home continues to to let us know, where necessary, about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they managed issues well. The Hollies works well with us and has shown that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by September 2010. However we can inspect this service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
