We undertook a random inspection to check compliance with requirements made at the time of the last key inspection. Two requirements were made at that time, one of which related to the keeping of appropriate records of the administration of all medication; the second to the need to assess the risk of fire associated with issues identified during the course of the visit & to take appropriate action. We found that appropriate records have been kept of the administration of all prescribed medication. The acting manager stated that the home has recently changed to a new pharmacist. She agreed to ensure that a new medication cabinet, supplied by the pharmacist, was attached to a wall. She also agreed to check whether the cabinet complies with revised regulations regarding the storage of controlled drugs. She reported the pharmacist would provide training for all staff in the new year. We also found that automatic stops have been fitted to doors between the kitchen & the lounge and that action has been taken to seal a hole, which had been drilled through a fire door. Records relating to the finances of each person who uses the service contained a contribution towards the cost of a Christmas tree and decorations. The acting manager agreed to seek guidance from the local authority on this issue. A new manager has been appointed since the date of the last inspection. She is in the process of applying to be registered with us.
