What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the home. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the home. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - What the home has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection. - What other people have told us about the service. The last inspection took place on 23rd February 2009. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us most of the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service, they continue to make improvements and they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA indicates that people who use the service went to Butlins in June 2009 and that a trip to Blackpool is planned for November. People who use the service will be actively involved in reviewing their person centred plans over the course of the next twelve months. The premises are being refurbished and improvements have been made to the grounds and access to the home. Staff members have completed a sixteen week distance learning course on the safe handling of medication. They have also undertaken training on issues such as first aid, fire safety, food hygiene, health & safety, manual handling and the protection of vulnerable adults. People who live at Holly Lodge Court have told us that they are happy there. They are encouraged to make decisions about their lives and are treated with dignity & respect. We received comment cards from ten people who use the service on this occasion. All continue to be satisfied with the quality of the support they receive. When asked what the home does well, their comments included the following: Look after me; Going on holiday. Going on daytrips. Going out for walks; The home does well looking after me; Holidays, activities. Any issues that were raised by people who use the service were brought to the attention of the registered provider. We also received comment cards from five members of staff. When they were asked what the home does well, they stated: Looks after the residents and meets their every need; It lets its residents have their own choice and supports them when they want to do something. They let the residents decide what they want to do; Caters for all the residents needs and provides activities & holidays to stimulate the residents; Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The residents are treated with dignity & respect; have lots of activities / holidays; go out on trips; have a good & varied diet. Two requirements were made at the time of the last inspection, one of which related to the keeping of appropriate records of the administration of all medication, the second to the need to assess the risk of fire associated with issues identified during the course of the inspection & to take appropriate action. A new manager has been appointed since the date of the last inspection. She is in the process of applying to be registered with us. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will undertake a random inspection before 23rd February 2010 to check on compliance with requirements made at the time of the last key inspection.
