We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? We have received no complaint about this service since the last review a year ago. The AQAA sent by the service showed that the service continues to strive to improve. Areas noted in the Aqaa that could be improved included ensuring that what might be seen as minor details regarding someones care were fully documented, so that issues that might be important to particular individuals were not overlooked. The service also aims to do more work on helping individual communication, using pictorial guides and relevant objects to help with establishing needs and wishes. The manager was spoken on the phone, was prompt in responding with helpful information, and confirmed details showing how the service was continuing to ensure that the needs of the people meeting the service continued to be met, as noted above. She spoke very positively of staff and their good responses to training. Relatives of two people living at the home were spoken with by phone to give their views on the service. These were extremely positive. Comments included a lovely place no worries, the staff are genuinely concerned; every consideration is taken. Relatives said they were kept informed and involved, and commented on the progress made by people since moving to the home. Choice, activities, and the development of individual living skills and greater independence of choice were all felt to be things at which the home excelled. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and expect to do a key inspection by May 30th 2010 at the latest. However we may inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
