This inspection was carried out on 4th October 2006.
CSCI has not published a star rating for this report, though using similar criteria we estimate that the report is Good. The way we rate inspection reports is consistent for all houses, though please be aware that this may be different from an official CSCI judgement.
The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report.

What the care home does well
The home carries out an assessment of need on all prospective residents before an offer of a place is confirmed. The home continues to support the residents to pursue social and leisure activities.All staff spoken to said that the home has a good training programme in place and there were a number of positive comments made regarding the new manager of the home. Residents are able to attend religious services either in the local community or a minister of their chosen faith can visit them in the home if preferred. Family and friends are encouraged to visit regularly. Where this is not possible staff at the home will assist residents to maintain contact via telephone or letter. The home has a complaint procedure and information about how to make a complaint is included in the home`s statement of purpose and function.
What has improved since the last inspection?
The cleanliness of the home has much improved and the home has domestic staff on each shift. A programme of upgrading and redecoration of the rooms is on going. Medication training was being planned for all staff and the dispensing pharmacist was going to visit the home to carry out audits. The manager has appointed activity organisers and two members of staff share the role. The home had no odours and there was evidence to show that the manager and staff were working hard to provide a comfortable environment for residents. The manager has introduced the wearing of a red apron for those staff administering medication.
What the care home could do better:
The home could access a mobile library to obtain large print books for residents to read. Daily reporting in care plans did not reflect the care delivered: the reports need to be more detailed.
