What the care home does well
The home is well resourced and has good staffing levels. There is a commitment to training and staff are given access to training opportunities to develop their skills and abilities. Staff are initially recruited on a sessional basis to establish whether they are suitable & suited to the service. The service focuses on the needs and aspirations of individuals and is working to develop choices with each person who lives at McAnany Ave The people who use the service appear to be happy and to relate well to the staff in the home. Opportunities are being developed for people to get involved in a range of activities at home and in the community. One family member said "We think this is a great thing for X. The staff are fantastic and he goes out now every day. When I look at how they are with him and the others it is a real comfort for us. He has been swimming and they are talking about taking him on holiday"
What has improved since the last inspection?
This is the first inspection of a new service.
What the care home could do better:
Staff should continue to work with service users to develop further ways to enable individuals to exercise choice. Personnel information is held in the Lifeways Regional Office in Sunderland and copies should be kept securely on site at McAnany Avenue.
