Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us when requested. The AQAA is a self-assessment tool, which focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some statistical information about the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. They told us about how they had met Equality and Diversity, which included: - the provision of company policies that promote equality and diversity -the registration of all new staff on the Learning Disability Qualification which ensures that they receive training in equality and diversity within their induction period - The promotion of equality and diversity with the people who live in the home, their families and other agencies based on company policies. The manager demonstrated an awareness of how the home is to progress over the next 12 months within the AQAA. This included: - actively supporting people to compile their life stories - continuing to provide extensive access to day time activities and social events - reassessment of peoples needs to ensure that they are being met as effectively as possible - the provision of in house training on abuse for all staff - reinforcing how to make a complaint for the people who live in the home - purchasing new garden furniture - purchasing new bedding and curtains for each persons room - the provision of training in person specific areas to ensure that people are being supported in the most appropriate way Examples of areas highlighted by the manager as having improved in the last 12 months include: - the provision of a company website that provides details of all the homes, services and contact details - the provision of an advocate for one person who expressed a wish to talk to one - continued support to people to ensure that they are comfortable in speaking up when they wish things to change - improved responses by staff with referring people to their GP or other associated healthcare professionals when required - the provision of training on Deprivation of Liberties legislation for the manager - the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 provision of training on the Mental Capacity Act for all staff - The decoration of all the communal areas of the home - continued consistency for people living in the home through staff covering each others annual leave or sick leave The AQAA states that no complaints have been received by the home since the last inspection of the home in June 2007. We have not received any complaints either. The home continues to notify us about accidents or incidents that may affect the health and welfare of people that live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 23rd June 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
