What the care home does well
What has improved since the last inspection?
Since the last inspection, the care plans have considerably improved and are all now at a good standard with regular reviews. A senior care assistant now organises the activities and bases them around `person centred care`. Residents seemed to be enjoying them and the records were seen and they contained many photographs. Since the last inspection a bedroom has been completely refurbished, including the window. New lighting is in the ground floor lounge and there is no longer a smoking lounge for the residents. Two Evacu chairs have been purchased for the first floor to be used in case of emergency.
What the care home could do better:
The environment of this home needs urgent attention and this affects the overall rating of this service. In particular the Provider must comply with the Condition of Registration concerning the windows. The Condition requires the County Council to carry out an audit of the windows, to see which need replacing and in what order of priority. The plan of replacement must be shared with the Commission and implemented without too much further delay. The audit should have taken place in March 2004 and although it is understood the premises have been reviewed this has not been received by the Commission. Failure to produce a copy of this review within the timeframes indicated in this report will result in enforcement action . Remedial work is also required on bedrooms, providing hand basins in toilets and repairing wheelchair damage throughout the home. The patio area needs attention so that it is a safe and attractive area for the residents to sit in. Hard paving paths would make the gardens more accessible to residents.
