The home is accessible by bus and the nearest underground and mainline station is Ealing Broadway. The home has a central courtyard that provides a pleasant area in which people living at the home and their visitors can sit. There is a patio area outside the activities room and also a pathway around the garden with a summerhouse, affording attractive areas for people to sit out in. The home provides nursing care for ex-service personnel and there are currently 2 units for this, plus there is an intermediate care unit consisting of 7 flats, used for rehabilitation. All the bedrooms are single. There are spacious communal sitting and dining rooms. The fees range from £741 to £1,200 per week. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found:
This medicines inspection was to check compliance with a Statutory Enforcement Notice issued on 21/7/09. The notice required the home to make arrangements for the recording, handling, safekeeping, safe administration and disposal of medicines received into the home by 3/08/09. We looked at the recording of receipts,administration and disposal of all medicines in Lord Mark Unit and antibiotics and warfarin in the two other general nursing units. We noticed one gap for calcium for a resident on 21/8 but the tablet was not in the monitored dosage system (MDS) so we presumed it had been given. We counted several tablets and were able to reconcile balances with the stock in the home and the managers own audits. Nurses were recording variable doses accurately and when medication was left in the MDS we knew why because the appropriate endorsement had been used. We checked the recording of warfarin throughout the home and found it to be well recorded and no errors in administration. Similarly with antibiotics. We noticed that the fridge needed defrosting in Lord Mark Unit and the recording of minimum and maximum temperatures reinstated. We checked controlled drugs and balances were correct. We moved money and other items out of the Controlled Drug cupboard and another stock cupboard so that the Medicines Act was complied with.The other outstanding requirements listed below were not viewed at this inspection. Overall we were satisfied that medication was handled safely and the Statutory Enforcement Notice complied with.
