Annual Service Review Page 2 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection and annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service in January 2008. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service and any feedback received from completed questionnaires. What has this told us about the service? We have viewed the services most recent annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they continue to consider whether further improvements can be made. Surveys were sent to the people who use the service, relatives and staff prior to this ASR but have not yet been processed so that source of information is unavailable for this report. The statement of purpose has been updated since the increase in bed numbers since the last Key inspection and the Care Quality Commission has been previously provided with a copy. The previous inspection found that the service offers a robust pre admission procedure with assessments being carried out by senior nursing staff to ensure prospective residents needs can be met by the service. The AQAA states that We have an excellent pre-admission procedure including a comprehensive pre-assessment for all residents, to ensure that we can meet their needs. Our Matron, her Deputy or Head of Nursing undertake these assessments personally. Prospective residents are made aware of the services we offer through our Statement of Purpose, including costs involved and can make an informed decision as to whether to come and live in our home. Visits to the home are encouraged for residents and their families and admission is always on a trial basis for the first month when there is no required notice. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The last completed AQAA highlighted the pro active approach of the service and commented within the next month we intend to introduce a Policy and Procedure and relevant Care Planning in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Prospective residents will then be able to see how we have improved our ability to meet these needs according to current best practice in this area. The last key inspection detailed that the service had made improvements to the quality assurance systems and record keeping of peoples finances. The AQAA tells us that We have developed a good Quality Assurance system, which helps us maintain, audit, and develop standards in all areas of the home. We monitor health and safety through the Quality Assurance System. Risk assessments and audits carried out routinely are actioned as appropriate. The key inspection highlighted that he service has good care planning systems in place. Regular and informative reviews were evident and care plans were individual to each resident, with plenty of detail and information on resident choice. Care plans were also seen to promote resident independence and self worth. A range of risk assessments were also completed and regularly reviewed. The AQAA also supports this information and states we maintain extremely high standards of health and personal care through our dedicated and highly trained staff team. We treat everyone as an individual, making comprehensive care plans and accessing outside agencies when required. Our care plans are updated and reviewed regularly, but at least on a monthly basis. In addition, the service continues to keep us informed of any significant events in the care service. The documentation is always completed well and received within the specified time scales. From the information we have received the service continues to be well-managed, responds to changing issues and reviews practice constantly. People who use this service experience excellent quality care outcomes. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 21st May 2010. We can review at any time the regulatory activity of this service if we have reason to believe that the outcomes for the people who use the service have changed.
