This unannounced visit was carried out on the 26th November 2008 as a result of a resident having gone missing from the Home on the 17th November 2008 During the visit we looked around the Home, looked at some records and spoke to the Manager and to one of the members of staff The Manager told us that the external doors have keypad locks on We saw that keypad locks are present on the majority of the doors The conservatory door was locked with a key and the Manager said that this key was kept in the key cupboard At least one of the fire doors has no opening on the inside and the Manager said that this opens automatically if the fire alarm is activated The Manager said that there are window restrictors on the first floor windows but not on the ground floor windows The lounge windows are positioned almost to the ground to enable residents to have good views into the garden The windows in the bedrooms and corridor are of a similar design but are not situated as low The garden has a high brick wall around the majority of it with a lower metal fence and gate alongside the driveway to the Home There are no gates on the driveway We looked at the staffing rota and saw that there were three staff on duty on the night of the 17th November 2008 This confirms the information provided by the Manager We also looked at a selection of staffing records Three of the staff files that we looked at show that staff started work at the Home prior to appropriate Criminal Records Bureau checks having been received Also, records show that there was only one reference on file for one of the staff All of these staff had started work at the Home between 2002 and 2004 What the care home does well: What they could do better: If you want to know what action the person responsible for this care home is taking following this report, you can contact them using the details set out on page 2 Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 6 Are there any outstanding requirements from the last inspection?
