We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent by us to people using the service and to other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Any relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). They had completed all sections of the AQAA to a good standard, giving ample detail of what they do well, how they have improved in the past 12 months and their plans for improvement in the next 12 months. The standard of the information provided was what we would expect from a 3 star/excellent service. Previous pre-inspection information provided by the manager has been found to be accurate when evidence was examined at unannounced inspections. The manager also sent us an analysis of the responses to questionnaires they sent to residents and relatives as part of the homes own quality assurance process. They asked a total of seventeen questions covering a range of areas including the cleanliness of the home, quality of food, visiting, care provided, dignity and respect, entertainment and complaints. With this information they included positive comments made by relatives. We received surveys from three people living in the home, three members of staff, three healthcare professionals and six relatives. All these surveys contained very positive comments about The Old Deanery. People living in the home who completed surveys told us that what the home does well is, Lets me live the life I want, Cleanliness and cheerfulness and The food in general is very good. Health and social care professionals who completed surveys told us, The Old Deanery provide a good, clean and very safe home for all its residents, Residents are always engaged in activities (if they want) and stimulated by staff, The staff are always open to suggestions for improvements or changes to care delivery and Everyone is friendly. Relatives of people living in the home told us they had, no complaints, I cannot think of any improvements and In my opinion the service my [relative] receives cannot be improved on. Relatives and friends made many comments about what the home does well including, Cleanliness 10 out of 10, Kind staff 10 out of 10 and food 10 out of 10, Excellent food and facilities, Since my [relative] has been a resident [they have] blossomed in the environment, Provides a relaxed, caring safe and welcoming environment with attentive and friendly staff, a range of activities to suit all tastes, Excellent care is given to the residents at the Old Deanery. The staff are well trained and always caring and diligent beyond the call of duty. Extra facilities including a wonderful bistro is enjoyed by residents and families alike. Floral arrangements, excellent food - no one could ask for more, In my opinion the service my [relative] receives cannot be improved on and In particular the commitment of carers and staff towards my [relative] has been exemplary. These comments confirm that The Old Deanery is run in the best interests of the people using the service. At the last key inspection on 29th May 2007 21 National Minimum Standards were assessed and the outcomes for people living in the home measured against these standards were judged good. No requirements or good practice recommendations were made following that inspection. Outcome groups relating to Choice of Home, Daily Life and Social Activities, Environment, Staffing and Management and Administration were all judged to be excellent. Outcome groups relating to Health and Personal Care and Complaints and Protection were judged to be good. Overall the home was judged to provide an excellent service. On 28th April 2008 we carried out an Annual Service Review and reported that when all the information we had received was examined it did not change our opinion of the service. In the past year no referrals have been made to the local authority under their safeguarding procedures. We have not received and are not aware of any concerns or complaints about this service during the period since the last Annual Service Review. Overall the evidence indicates that the service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 20th May 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
