What the care home does well
The home is clean and pleasantly decorated. There is good access throughout the building where residents are accommodated, with a range of aids and adaptations available for dependent people. All service users have a comprehensive assessment of their needs before they come to live at the home. Needs that are identified are developed into a plan of care that is regularly updated with the involvement and discussion of the service user. Service users are treated with respect and are able to retain control over their lives within the home. Meal are home cooked and varied with a choice of meal always available. Service users say that : "meals here are delicious". The home has sufficient and knowledgeable staff to meet resident`s needs. There are robust quality assurance systems in place that monitors the home and ensures that the home is run in the interest of service users.
What has improved since the last inspection?
All service users have a comprehensive assessment of their needs before they come to live at the home. Care plans are also now fully reflect residents needs. Systems have improved to ensure that all staff receive required mandatory training with staff receiving training in adult protection, infection control, food hygiene, moving and handling, fire safety, health and safety and first aid.
What the care home could do better:
To enable the home to develop further the appointment of an experienced and effective manager is essential. Areas required for improvement include a need for all new staff to receive induction training that meets the required guidelines, regular staff supervision that is recorded. The home is clean and homely but problems with the double glazing and faulty window made bedrooms feel cold and draughty on the day of the inspection. There is also a need to ensure that hot water is within a safe temperature to ensure that it is both safe and comfortable for the service users.
