What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection, which was carried out on 22nd January 2009. This should have included, The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that would be sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living at Westcliffe House. It also provides some numerical information about the service. We did not receive a completed AQAA. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest such as relatives, social workers and GPs. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints. What Westcliffe House have told us about things that have happened in the Service. We also looked at the last Key Inspection report. What has this told us about the service? The provider for Westcliffe House did not forward an AQAA when requested. We the Commission were contacted twice by the home and two extensions were agreed. Despite this at the time of writing this report an AQAA had not been received. We sent six service user, six staff and six care manager. Have Your Say surveys to the home for the manager to distribute. At the time of writing this report we had received no response to any of the surveys sent. Since writing this report we received comments from both service users and staff. People indicated that they were happy with the care and support they received at Westcliffe House. Staff indicated that they received all the support and training necessary to carry out their role within the home. As a result of the lack of information received, we are unable to make a judgement about whether the home is continuing to maintain the excellent rating awarded at their last inspection. As a result we will carry out an unannounced inspection before 14 May 2010 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do a random inspection by 20th May 2010 to look at the issues raised in this review. This inspection could mean that we will bring our next key inspection forward.
