What the care home does well
This is a generally well maintained home, providing clean and comfortably accommodation for residents. There is an on-going training programme in place for staff to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide residents with the care they need. Residents spoken to said how much they enjoyed living in the home, specific comments being; `very homely, I am very happy here` and `no regrets coming to live here, everything is satisfactory`. Residents have choices as to how they lead their lives in the home and there is a range of social activities provided both within the home and local community.
What has improved since the last inspection?
Action has been taken to address the recommendations made during the previous inspection. Staffing levels have been increased and there are now two wakeful staff each night. Continual improvements are being made to the environment of the home, four new bedrooms have been created and all have en-suite facilities. Other improvements include; a new boiler, a disabled shower room, new fire alarm system, new wireless call bell system and re-decoration to one bedroom. The staff-training programme has included training in dementia care and adult abuse and progress is being made to ensure that 50% of staff have achieved a vocational award in care.
What the care home could do better:
All prospective residents or their representatives, should be sent a letter to confirm that after assessment the home can or cannot meet their care needs. Care plans must show that residents and/or their representative are involved in reviews.
