1-3 Alexandra Street is an end of terrace house and its adjoining neighbour, in a quiet residential district in the town of Stone. The two properties have an interlinking door on the ground floor, and provide a total of six single rooms, one of which is on the ground floor. The properties open onto the pavement at the front, but at the rear there are enclosed yards, with separate gardens across the communal "backs", that serves several of the properties in this row. Both houses have their own communal facilities including kitchen, lounge and kitchen. There is a staff sleeping in room with a fireproofAnnual Service Review cabinet for secure storage. The service is registered for six younger adults who have a learning disability. The service seeks to meet their assessed needs in a domestic style of setting, with no outward signs that this is in fact a care home. The service user guide does not identify the fee levels stating that fees depended on each person`s needs. People would therefore need to contact the service to get information about fees.Annual Service Review

Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The information used to complete this Annual Service Review includes: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment(AQAA) that the service sent us. This is a self assessment that looks at how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us numerical information about the service. Six surveys from people living at the service. One survey from a social care professional that works with people living at the service. Information we have about how the service manages complaints and safeguarding incidents. What the service tells us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirements. What has this told us about the service? The services AQAA tells us about the service provided and its plans for the future. When we visited last time we made some requirements. The service has written to us to tell us that these issues have been addressed. When we visited last time we saw that the service was providing person centred care. The AQAA tells us that this process has been continued. A survey from a social care professional told us that they felt that the service was meeting peoples individual needs and was promoting peoples independence. The AQAA tells us that the service listens to the people that live there through individual people planning their own care, having regular house meetings and through getting feedback from surveys. The service says it supports people to make daily decisions about their own lives. They tell us, for example, that each person chooses where to go on holiday and this year there have been trips to Menorca, Wales, Devon and York. They also choose what social activities they want to do, for example, one person chose to go and see Stoke City football team play. All of the surveys we received from people that live there tell us that they can do what they want during the day, evening and at weekends. A social care professional told us that the service provided people with choice. When we visited last time we saw that people were taking an active part in running the service. People were being supported to keep the service clean, do the shopping and cook the meals. The AQAA confirms that they support people to develop their daily living skills and people continue to be actively involved in running the service. When we visited last time we saw that the service was meeting peoples health and personal care needs. The AQAA states that it is continuing to support people to receive health services from, for example, the doctor, dentist and from specialist health care professionals. A social care professional told us that the service always monitored, reviewed and met peoples health care needs. The AQAA states that it has a complaints procedure in place that is in a format that people can understand. The surveys from people living at the service confirm that they know how to make a complaint. We, the commission have not received any complaints since the last time we visited. The service informed us abut an incident when one person was subject to abuse. We feel that the service acted appropriately and made Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 sure that this person was properly protected. The surveys from people that live at the service tell us that they are treated well by the staff and manager and that the staff always listen to them and act upon what they say. When we visited last time we found that staff got on well with the people that live there and were knowledgeable about each persons needs. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30 April 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
