What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we received, or asked for, since the last key inspection which was undertaken on 21st January 2009. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is as self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information provided, and at the feedback provided in the surveys that were returned by the staff team, and people who use the service. Our judgement is that the service is still providing good outcomes for the people who use the service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The information provided, told us that the service has received no complaints with the last twelve months, and they have not had any safeguarding incidents. The service told us in the information provided, how they ensure each person receives up to date information about the service. They also told us that peoples needs are assessed, and they are introduced to the service through overnight stays, prior to moving in. Each person has a detailed, person centred care plan developed, along with relevant risk assessments, taking into account their daily routines and preferences. This ensures that staff members know how people want to be supported. They told us they also offer support and guidance to people to enable people to pursue independent lifestyles. People are encouraged and supported to engage in a range of activities of their choice. They told us they provide a homely, comfortable and safe environment, and people are supported in all aspects of their daily lives and routines. The manager told us in the information provided, that all staff receive training so that they have the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the people who use the service. We sent surveys to people that use this service, and three were returned. In the Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 feedback they told us: they were involved in the decision to use this service and make decisions about what they do each day. They told us the staff treat them well and they felt listened to by both the manager and staff team, and they are aware of how to complain should they need to. The following comments were made: The staff look after me very well Looks after us well. We sent surveys to the staff team and we had five returned. In the feedback four of the five members of staff told us they were provided with the required information in order to meet peoples assessed needs, but one person told us they are never given this information. They were recruited in accordance with the legal requirements to ensure people using the service are protected. Four out of the five members of staff told us they had an induction, and receive ongoing opportunities to enable them to have the skills and knowledge for their role; one person told us their induction did not provide them with information that they needed to know to do their job or provided with ongoing training opportunities. Four out of five members of staff felt supported by their manager. No comments were made by staff on the surveys. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
