Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement, The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We sent surveys for people to complete to the home and received three completed surveys from people who use the service, four from staff and one from a social care professional. The AQAA told us the the home continues to seek the views of people who live there. They do this by using surveys, having meetings, communication books and a keyworker system. Peoples needs are assessed and kept under review with the full involvment of the person and the family. There have been improvments in the care plans in the past year. The AQAA also told us that people who live in the home live the lifestyle of their choice and that a range of stimulation activities are available. The environment has been maintained and specialist equipment has been purchased, some new double glazed doors have been provided. The AQAA did state that the landlord can sometimes be slow to complete needed work. The surveys we received from people who use the service all expressed satisfaction with the care they receive and the decisions they make on a daily basis. All stated they knew who to speak to if they were not happy. The AQAA stated that the domestic staff has an National Vocational Qualification Level 2 in domestic cleaning but two of the surveys received answered Never to the question Is the home fresh and clean, the third responded Always. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home had reported to us five medication errors since the last Key unnannounced Inspection. The AQAA told us that medication guidlines have been updated and that there is a new controlled drug cupboard and a new drugs fridge. The provision of the controlled drugs cuboard and the drugs fridge meets a requirement of the last key Unnannounced Inspection. Two of the four staff surveys acknowledged that there had been medication errors and that action has been taken to prevent this in the furure. All four of the staff surveys stated that the home is a supportive place to work and that they receive supervision and training. They stated they were happy working there and that people worked as a team. One commented There is excellent staff training and good communication We received one survey from a social care professional who commented It is clear that the staff invest themselves wholeheartedly into ensuring that the residents are able to lead a full and active life. This survey also commented that some parts of the home were in need of redecoration. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a Key Inspection before 05/12/2010 However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
