Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection or annual service review and this included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people using the service. Information that we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about the things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications. The previous key inspection report. Surveys from service users and other people involved with the home. What has this told us about the service? This Annual Service Review (ASR) was completed on 6th August 2009 and from the information that we have received, we have not changed out opinion about the quality of care being provided in the home. At the last key inspection visit, which was carried out on 28/08/08, we found that people had their needs assessed and recorded in a plan of care and people were having their healthcare needs met. There was a wide variety of activities available and people were being supported by a well trained and well supported staff team. The AQAA was completed by the manager of the home and returned to the Commission within the given timescales and it contained very clear information about the home. In the AQAA we are told that assessments of need are carried out for new service users and that person centred care plans are completed with input from families and other professionals. We are told that people have access to good physical and emotional healthcare support and that they have the aids and adaptations they need to support their independence. We are told that people are supported with individual lifestyles choices and that they are part of their local community. The manager tells us that recently the staff team have been researching diversity issues such as religious beliefs and ethnicity and they have been supporting people to celebrate various religious festivals. We are told that complaints and concerns are recorded and acted upon, that three complaints have been investigated, with none being upheld. The AQAA tells us that there are sufficient numbers of staff to meet the needs of the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 people living in the home and that the staff team have a diverse mix of skills and experience. Of twelve staff, nine have NVQ at level 2 or above and the manager is completing the Registered Managers Award. In returned surveys, people tell us that they are happy living in the home and a comment in a health care professionals surveys said, The home creates a pleasant home atmosphere, generally there is a stable staff team and they know the clients and their need quite well. Improvements could be made by staff training in postural management and in its importance to this client group. Surveys from four service users told us that they were happy living in the home and comments from staff surveys included, the manager runs a person centred led home, there is development for clients and for staff and people are given choice and opportunities for development. An area that could be improved on, that was identified in surveys was that more space provided in the environment would be beneficial to service users. The home continues to let us know the things that have happened since the last key inspection and have shown us that they manage issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people to use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will carry out a key inspection by 28/08/2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
