Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, as part of this review and the last inspection in February 2009. This included the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the home. The AQAA is a selfassessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people who use the service. It also gave us information about the actions being taken or planned to improve the service for the people. We rang and spoke to the manager and some staff members. We have considered the findings of our last inspection and relevant information from other organisations. We also looked at the information we have about how the service manages any complaints and what the service has told us about things that have happened since the previous inspection including formal notifications as required under regulation 37 of the Care Homes Regulations 2001. What has this told us about the service? From our conversations with the manager and the staff, and from the information given to us in the AQAA we believe that the home is running well. When we last visited the home we observed and talked to a number of the residents. We also checked the residents files. It was evident from the AQAA that the residents were assessed before admission and each person had a care plan which reflected their individual needs and which was reviewed regularly. All the residents were engaged with the activities provided for them within and outside the home. The AQAA describes this as follows: Service users participate in lots of various activities such as employment and college. They go swimming and play snooker as well as many other activities. Individuals take part in cleaning their own rooms and communal areas and are encouraged to do their own laundry. As part of the Trusts 5Oth anniversary people have taken part in dream days such as, Bat watching, River Boat Discos, Concerts/shows, Spanish dancing. People are supported to visit family and friend when they want and family and friends can visit the home. The manager states in the AQAA that the needs of each person are assessed and met. We are reassured to read in the AQAA that the home provides support for residents who wish to attend a place of worship. We are also encouraged to learn that the residents have opportunity not only to choose what they eat but also participate in the preparation of meals. We summarized in our last report the reasons why we believe the home is being run well as follows: Care plans, risk assessments and the arrangements in place to enable the residents to access health care needs are good. The service managers regular visit to the home and his support to the manager and the staff ensure that the home is run in a way that it meets the needs of the residents. The home continues to let us know, where necessary, about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they managed issues well. The home works well with us and has shown that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do an annual service review by 28th February 2011.
