What the care home does well People are happy living at the home. They are cared for and the staff work hard to keep them healthy and comfortable. People benefit from a specialist service where external health care professionals and the staff at Lion Road work together to make sure their needs are met. The staff are happy working at the home and feel they have the training, support and management they need. The manager has an excellent knowledge of the service and keeps himself updated with changes in practice and legislation. Records are accurate and up to date and the quality of the service is regularly checked by the organisation. What the care home could do better: There are no legal requirements from this inspection and the home should continue to work closely with other professionals to offer people the support and care they need. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 7 What we found: We made an unannounced visit to the home on 8th June 2010. We met people who live there, the manager and other staff on duty. We looked at the environment, records and how people were being cared for. We looked at all the information we have received about the service since our last inspection. We found that people are well cared for. The home provides a specialist service to older people with a learning disability who may have additional mobility or health needs. The home works closely with the local health team to assess, monitor and manage peoples health needs. The staff have had specialist training in supporting people with specific health conditions and the community nurses provide additional training and information where needed. People who live at the home are supported to pursue individual interests and the life style of their choosing. There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at the home and the staff are kind and supportive towards people. The manager has an excellent knowledge of peoples individual needs and is very caring and involved in their care and daily lives. The organisation responsible for managing the home has merged with another company who are introducing some organisational changes, new policies and training for the managers and staff.
