What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received since the last annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service within the requested time. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people using the service. The AQAA is a legal requirement; it also gives us some numerical information about the service. The previous inspection report of 15 November 2007 and the annual service review of 11 November 2008. What the service has told us about the things that have occurred in the service. These are notifications and are a legal requirement. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What other people have told us through their surveys. We received eight surveys from people living at Albemarle, ten from their relatives and four from staff. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment within the required timescales. The information in the AQAA was satisfactory and provided us with all of the information we asked for. We were told how the home ensures that people who use the service are consulted on things that matter to them. For example, The AQAA tells us that the home promote an open door policy encouraging people to voice their opinions freely. They told us how they promote Equality and Diversity within the service. They said All staff, residents and families are treated as individuals. We are responsive to all of their needs. The AQAA tells they have not received any complaints in the last twelve months. People told us in the surveys that they know who to speak to if they have any concerns. No complaints have been made to us about the service since the last annual service review. The service tells us that they follow their recruitment procedures in seeking references and completing safety checks to make sure that suitable staff are employed. Staff also confirmed this process in their surveys. We were told that 70 of care staff have achieved a minimum of level two in the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in care. This means that staff should have the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 necessary skills and knowledge to provide a good standard of support to the people who live there. We received eight completed surveys from people who use the service. Comments included: There are some very caring staff. The health care is excellent, we have stimulating activities. Overall, its ok. Its a very clean and tidy home. We received ten completed surveys from relatives of people who use the service. They told us they are satisfied with the care provided by Albemarle. Additional comments made included: I feel my relative is cared for with compassion and understanding. With no restrictions on visiting, we can pop in and out as we want and the home does not mind. When I leave the home after visiting my relative I am relaxed because I know she is in good hands - very good hands. We are asked for suggestions, and the management listen to us. The clothes get mixed up sometimes. The current manager quickly set about improving the general level of care, which is now excellent. The family are very happy with the care our relative receives. We received four completed surveys from staff. They told us they are given up to date information about the needs of people they care for and have received training that is relevant to their role. Additional comments made include: We are very welcoming to new residents. We work well as a team, everyone chips in to do what we can to help each other and the residents. We are provided with all the training required to meet the residents needs. We have a very supportive management and training programmes are always offered. We have looked at all the information available to us and in our judgement the home continues to provide a good service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan.
