Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service We spoke to the Registered Manager to clarify some information in the AQAA and other issues such as Complaints and Safeguarding. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was received by the agreed date and gave us adequate information about the home. We looked at the information in the AQAA and clarified some points with the Manager. Our judgment is that the home continues to provide a good service for people as outlined in the last Key Inspection report. At the time of the last Key Inspection we made one requirement relating to medication, this concerned laxative medication given to a person without prescription. This has now been addressed all medication including laxatives are obtained by prescription only. Recommendations for good practice were made relating to: Privacy locks on bathrooms and Call systems available in en-suite areas. Checks that privacy locks are operating effectively is now built into the regular environmental checks and call systems are now installed in all en-suite areas. The home have received 2 complaints since the last inspection one related to a medication error. Clear instructions are now in place to ensure only staff trained to administer medication can handle medication. The other anonymous complaint was referred to us and we were satisfied that the complaint, relating to care practice, was Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 without foundation and the homes response was positive and cooperative in arriving at that conclusion. Further redecoration and new furniture has been provided as part of the homes ongoing maintenance/upgrading plans. All staff have completed dementia care training. Senior staff have completed an additional distance learning course in far greater depth. This is now being made available to all staff. Staff have also completed training in the Mental Capacity Act in the past year. NVQ training is ongoing for all staff - at this time 50 of care staff have completed NVQ training. There are regular meetings with people in the home. Some changes made as a result of matters raised in those meetings have included, changes to menus, laundry procedures and a more varied range of activities. The meetings have also been split into 2 separate meetings, people felt they could more readily raise and discuss issues in a smaller group. Quality questionnaires are carried out for people using the service, staff and other stakeholders. This provides valuable feedback in further improving the service provided. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last inspection and have shown that they manage issues well. They work well with us and we are satisfied that they continue to provide good outcomes for people using the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have no immediate plans to carry out a key inspection and will continue to monitor the progress and outcomes of the service. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
