Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection report. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and generally gave us the information requested. However, some areas of the document could have been more comprehensive in demonstrating the excellent service being provided at Arran Manor. Based on the AQAA and other information received our judgement is that the home continues to provide an excellent service for people living at the home. The service actively seeks the views of people living at the home and their families/friends by way of meetings with residents and their families, questionnaires and care reviews. Questionnaires are also sent to external agencies, and feed back from some social care professionals who were contacted, was that the home is excellent and works well with them. The health and personal care of residents remains a priority and visits are now undertaken by a fitness professional who is providing fitness sessions and advice for all residents who wish to participate. The range of daily activities has improved and residents can enjoy trips to the theatre, tea dances, restaurants and shopping and also there is now more entertainment within the home. Daily menus continue to give choice and the nutritional needs of residents continues to be a main focus within this service. The AQAA tells us that no complaints have been received by the service in the last 12 months, and no complaints nor concerns have been received by the Commission. The complaints procedure is prominently displayed within the home so that all residents and their families are aware of this. Currently there are no safeguarding issues at the home, and all staff have undertaken in this area. The proprietor is also aware of the deprivation of liberty safeguards and this is being incorporated into the relevant policies and procedures. There have been no referrals under the deprivation of liberty safeguards. The AQAA demonstrates that the service has a good understanding of equality and diversity issues in all of the relevant areas. To ensure that all residents and families are kept fully informed, and involved, in what is going on at Arran Manor, a social secretary has now been appointed and this person will be responsible for the production of a news letter at 3 monthly intervals. The environment at Arran Manor is of a very high standard, and there is an ongoing programme of maintenance, refurbishment and redecoration to ensure that this standard is maintained at all times. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Training for staff continues and more than 50 of care staff have been trained to NVQ level 2 and some to NVQ level 3. The service is planning to further improve upon care plans by including comprehensive night care plans and also to extend the current premises through the addition of a further two bedrooms. The service continues to work well with the Commission and keeps us informed of any incidents. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 10th June 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
