What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that had been sent to us by the home. This self-assessment document focuses on how outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information. We reviewed the previous key inspection report. We surveyed samples of residents and of staff working in the home to obtain their views about the quality of services that Ashglade provides. We reviewed our files to check whether any notifications had been received from the home since our previous inspection or whether any information about the home had been received from other sources. We have been in communication with the homes registered manager. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). We looked at the information in the AQAA and judge from it that the home will continue to provide a good service, and also that they are aware of improvements they need to make. Our last key inspection found the home was providing a good service, so we gave it a two-star rating. The home had shown us that it was providing good outcomes for its residents. An expert by experience took part in the inspection process and accompanied the inspector on the site visit for the key inspection. An expert by experience is a person who has a shared experience of using services and who can help an inspector get a better picture of what it is like to live in a care home. At our request, the manager has provided written confirmation that the six requirements we raised at our last key inspection of the home have been addressed. The survey responses received by the time of writing this report showed people are very satisfied with the quality of services at Ashglade and with how the home is being managed. Comments from residents included that the home: allows appropriate independence, communicates well with relatives, provides comfortable surroundings and excellent food. Staff were described by residents as being warm , friendly and welcoming and the manager as excellent and a good communicator, has time for residents and families. A visiting health care professional commented that what Ashglade does well is to have a friendly, caring atmosphere. Staff members responding to our survey were positive in their views about the home. Their comments included that the home is good at meeting peoples individual needs and that the staff work well as a team. A review of our files showed that since our last inspection we have received prompt statutory notifications from the home about issues affecting residents health and welfare. Since our last inspection, we have received one complaint from an anonymous Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 source about night staffing arrangements, which we passed to the provider for investigation. The manager provided a report of the investigation of the issues raised. We are aware of one safeguarding alert raised by the home to the local authority, using their procedures. The manager has confirmed the outcome and there is no further concern. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have included Ashglade in our inspection plan. We can inspect it at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the welfare of the people using it. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
