We, the Care Quality Commission carried out an unannounced random inspection at Ashwood Court on the 6 May 2010. Several weeks before our planned visit, we asked the manager to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment form (AQAA). The AQAA gives us information about how the home is meeting the needs of the people who live there, and includes future plans for further development. To help us gather further information about the service we sent surveys to residents and staff. We received completed surveys from ten residents and from ten members of staff. Residents comments were very positive and they indicated they were happy living at the home. Residents confirmed they had been consulted about moving in to the home and they were provided with sufficient information about services and facilities available. When asked what the home does well at, one said, If there is something wrong with your room, staff sort it straight away. The staff are excellent and the meals are excellent. Another said, We get regular meals which are good and we can go where we want and we get on well with all the staff. Staff comments were also positive about the management of the home and how the home was run. Staff confirmed that they receive up to date information about the people they are caring for, that the recruitment process was rigorous and robust and that they are given training and updates relevant to their role. One said, We meet the need of all the individuals and respect their rights and choices. Another said, The home does well at promoting independence and helping residents to mix together. We felt the home is still providing excellent outcomes for those people living at the home.
