It is within walking distance of Newport High Street and its town centre facilities, including the bus station. Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 This unique treatment centre is provided by an ex-Service organisation. It specialises in the assessment and treatment of men and women of all ranks of the three Armed Services and the Merchant Navy who are suffering from psychological difficulties attributable to their service. The Society has two closely linked main activities: welfare and treatment. It is one of three centres of this kind in the country. The average age of people using the service is 42 years. This is reducing annually due to the recent conflicts in Eastern Europe, Afghanistan, and the Arabia Gulf. Since the last inspection the number of admissions to this service have further increased and the service is pressured due to demand for the service it offers. The treatment centre is currently in the process of an extensive refurbishment (at the time of the last key inspection) and can accommodate 27 people when it is fully operational. Bedrooms of people using the service are located on the ground and first floor of the building. Some bedrooms have been equipped for an individual to share with their own personal carer if they so wish. The premises are also equipped with a lift to make areas accessible to people of all abilities. The accommodation has several communal areas for people to enjoy, including a lounge, library, a designated smoking lounge and a purpose built activities centre with training and education facilities, which is the central focus for treatment at the centre. Audley Court makes people know about the service with welcome packs which includes details of the information we expect them to provide by law. Payment for placements is through charitable donations and government funding. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or have asked for, since the last key inspection, this including: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service, and their relatives. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous main (key) inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear, well completed and gave us information that we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing an excellent service and they know what further improvements they need to make. People that use Audley Court tell us that they are very pleased with the service that they receive. The only areas where they have told us the service could be improved was in regard to extending the provision that people currently receive in respect of short breaks at the home and possibly aftercare. There was some limited comment in regard to the possible loss of the smoking room (due to changes in the law) and the potential for building on key worker relationships with service users. The overriding impressions given by the comments made by people through surveys, was that Audley Court was a valuable service that worked toward meeting the needs of those people using it, this successful based on what we have been told. Audley Court is providing input that some service users feel is indispensable. The following comments we received reflected what people told us about Audley Court: Meet my needs in a caring and professional way & sympathetic to my specific requirements. Given the highest quality of care during my stays at Audley Court. They allow me to see that their is light at the end of the tunnel and that I can do things to improve my life. The care given to the clients is second to none. As I am a diabetic the food I receive is superb. I have attended Audley Court since it opened and although it has evolved over time the focus has always been on the clients. Saves lives, rebuilds confidence, puts otherwise worthless individuals back on track. Its a slow process but it does work. I would be dead without combat stress. Offers support when needed. Keeps clients on the straight and narrow. Gives back confidence to go on, and get their lives back on track. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The care and support given by Audley Court when I am there or at home is beyond any support I can state. They look after my physical and mental disabilities (all caused by my service) and enable me to carry on as much of a normal life as is possible. Everything - Audley Court is spot on. I cannot praise them enough . They have saved my sanity. Just to arrive, go through the entrance, I can really relax. I can assure you the staff at Audley are lovely people who do their utmost to make your life worth living. Every Group and activity is handled excellently, since attending combat stress it has helped me no end. The management have kept us up to date with any changes at the service on an on going basis. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key (main) inspection in accordance with our risk management processes. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living there. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
