Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked out all the information that we have received, or asked for about Ayletts House, since the last key inspection. We looked at any correspondence that we received outlining any event that may have affected the running of the home, including complaints. We asked the manager to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) form. This form is for the manager to consider and report on how well they think the service they provide meets the expected outcomes of the people using the service. We sent surveys to the manager to give to service users and asked them to tell us their views on how they think the home is run. We looked at the report that was written about the homes last key inspection. An Inspector went to the home as part of that key inspection and spent time with the manager and the service users. What has this told us about the service? No correspondence relevant to this report was received by the Commission since the last key inspection. We have not received any complaints about the home and the managers AQAA also confirms that they have not had to deal with any formal complaints. All the service users who commented in the surveys we received said that they either knew how to make a complaint. The manager sent us a completed Annual Quality Assurance Assessment when we asked for it. This was completed well and showed that the manager has an objective approach. The AQAA shows that the home continues to develop and improve the services offered. There is evidence that they continually consult with service users and their representatives. Following consultation, in the last year they have enlarged the patio in the garden and improved wheelchair access. They also plan to replace some of the soft furnishings in the home over the next 12 months. Following feedback from staff, they have purchased a new set of electronic sit on scales and they continue to replace divan beds with electric adjustable beds. The managers AQAA shows that as a team they are very orientated towards monitoring the quality of the services they offer and the manager has systems and audits in place to help with this. At the current time they are also working towards the Investors in People Award. A new brochure has been developed recently and this can now be downloaded from the homes website. The manager said that they continue to try and improve upon the activities programme offered and this is always ongoing. The staff team is stable, turnover is quite low and they only use occasional agency staff. Out of the 17 care staff employed, 14 have completed an NVQ qualification. We also noted that the majority of staff have received training in infection control and nutrition. The manager has completed a course which now enables her to train staff in the home on safe manual handling. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 There are no outstanding agenda items from the last report where an officer visited the home. The residents are very happy living at Ayletts House and commented very positively in our surveys. Their comments included First class general care, run very well, its just like home, they take care of you and listen to people, very friendly and homely, very clean and fresh, the carers are all very attentive, food is excellent and care is perfect, everyone is made to feel welcome, the staff go out of their way to make the residents feel loved and cared for and I have nothing but praise for Ayletts. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 13th February 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
