What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included The annual quality assurance assessment AQAA that was completed by the manager of Barleyfield House and sent to us prior to this Annual Service Review ASR. The AQAA is a self assessment tool that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection that was carried out by CSCI on 30th September 2008. Comments from a representative of a person who uses the service, from the staff team and one health and social care professional. What has this told us about the service? Barleyfield House sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing excellent outcomes for people who use the service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Barleyfield house stated that the following improvements have been made: Re decoration continues to take place with a number of furnishings and fittings being replaced. Care plans have been improved to allow participation by people who use the service or their reprentatives in the development of their personalised plan. Menus are now in picture format. Pictorial/symobolised cards are now in place to give people who use the service the opportunity to plan their own activites. Staff training opportunities have been developed giving access to specialist training topics, this is in addition to mandatory training. Improved staff rota to give more continuity. The AQAA also outlines the improvements planned for the forthcoming year. These include: To continue to replace furnsishings throughout the home. To seek additional venues/resources/activities for people who use the service.Continue to support staff in training and development. Six members of staff completed surveys for us and feedback indicates that staff are given up to date information about the needs of the people they support or care for. Staff feel that there are enough staff to meet the individual needs of people who use the service. Staff also told us that they feel they have enough support, experience and knowledge to meet the needs of people who use the service. Staff told us the service does the following well Looks after the guests very well. It provides a warm, caring, clean and comfortable environment. Guests are consulted over the choices of menus and are asked what activities they would like to do. Staff training is ongoing and keeps us up to date with new training methods. Barleyfield House is a very happy and well run home and I am proud to be part of the team. One health and social care professional who returned a completed questionnaire told us Peoples health and social care needs are properly monitored, reviewed and met by the service. Barleyfield House seek advice and act on it to meet peoples health and social care needs and improve their well being. Management and staff work very closely with district nursing team when people require nursing needs to be met on respite. Communication between the staff and ourselves is excellent. Clients needs are paramount. They told us that the staff treat them well and listen and act on what they say. The home is always clean and fresh.
