Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to the home by people using the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us most of the information we asked for, although it did not include details of how the requirements set at the last inspection have been addressed. The manager confirmed on the telephone that these have been. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the service is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. All the communal areas of the home have been decorated and the manager said that everywhere is looking very nice. A stair lift has been fitted to the back staircase to help people access their rooms. It was stated on the AQAA that the home needed to increase the number of staff who have a professional qualification and currently eight staff are working towards one. Staff have been trained on The Mental Capacity Act and on The Deprivation of Liberty. The manager said this has had positive outcomes in the home and helped create more opportunities for people to make choices. People using the service have made positive comments on the homes survey forms Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 and in residents meetings. At the last meeting it was recorded in the minutes residents said, The food could not be any better. Questions were asked in survey forms about cleanliness, laundry services, food and care planning. All responses received were very positive about these. There have not been any complaints made to ourselves or the home in the last 12 months and there have not been any safeguarding referrals or investigations. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They told us about a recent error made in administering one persons medication and the action they took to ensure the person did not come to any harm and to prevent any reoccurrence. The manager said there have been recent positive audits from the pharmacist, Health and safety and the County Council. There is also a system of internal audits by the manager and another home manager visits monthly and carries out a further audit. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for service users. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed.
