What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA), which was completed and sent to us by the registered manager. This is a self assessment process, which all providers are required to complete once a year. It focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also provides us with some statistical information about the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications are a legal requirement. Information about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? At the last key inspection October 2008, the home was assessed as being a good service. Since that time there have been no complaints received by the Commission and the home tells us that they have not received any. The service completed an AQAA and this was returned by the due date in August 2009. The AQAA indicated that the home continues to provide a good service. It also identified what further improvements they wish to make. The AQAA (Annual Quality Assurance Assessment) identified improvements in the previous year and this included: Devising comprehensive risk assessment for people who travelled abroad. Encouraging a particular family member to show more interest in the care of a person. Supporting three people in finding a job. Ensuring staff training, supervision and appraisals. Scheduling activities in pictorial form. Supporting people to achieve their aims. E.g. going to the pub, church, having a boy friend and going to college. All the staff have had training including diversity and disability, safeguarding, record keeping and report writing. Three staff have achieved NVQ 3 level in Care. Some improvements to the environment including a new bathroom, new garden fence and redecorating one of the bedrooms. The AQAA identified future planned improvements including: Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Road safety training for a particular person. Developing living skills to enable two people to move on to supported living. Refurbishing the rest of the rooms as soon as people decide on which colour scheme they want. The home always notifies the Commission of events affecting people who use the service as required under Regulation 37 of the Care Homes Regulations 2001. The home continues to ensure that the wishes and choices of people living in the home are supported. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do an unannounced key inspection 30th September 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the health and safety of people using the service.
