This Inspection was undertaken 20th May 2010 and lasted for two hours. The Inspector met with the staff member on duty and three of the people living in the home. One person was out at College and the Registered Manager had already worked an early shift and was due to return later in the day to work in the evening. This was partly to support an activity that had been planned. It was therefore not possible to look at some records relating to staff recruitment. Records relating to care planning and assessments, medication administration and storage were examined and an inspection of the environment was also carried out. The Statement of Purpose has been reviewed and updated to reflect the services provided by the home. There has been one admission and one person has moved on since the last inspection visit. Assessments had been completed but the person had moved from another home run by the same Provider, so they were already partly known to the service. People living in the home confirmed they are involved in the reviewing of their plans. The format that has been introduced for for the care planning process is person centered and is appropriate to the needs of the people living in the home. One care plan seen had been recently reviewed and updated. Risk assessments seen were up to date and had recently been reviewed. People gave examples of social activities they undertook in the evenings and at the weekends. People have been involved in developing their daily and weekly routines and people spoken to said they were happy with the current range and frequency of trips and outings. The medication storage and administration were checked and all items were correctly stored and recording was up to date. There was evidence that medication was being regularly reviewed. One person is being supported to manage their own medication. All staff had completed training in adult protection. The home was well maintained and decorated throughout and all safety checks were being completed. Staff spoken with said they felt well supported in their roles and feedback from surveys also supported this. The home is fully staffed at present. Two staff had worked the early shift and there was one staff member on duty during the day. Two staff were due to be working in the evening. Staff have been receiving more regular supervision and all were up to date with the required statutory training. Staffing recruitment records were not available at the time of this inspection visit. The manager of the home has completed their registration since the last inspection and implemented a number of improvements to the service. This has included improved care planning and staff supervision. Action has been taken to address the issues raised at the last inspection and the service is being provided with leadership and direction. What the care home does well:
