Fourteen people have bedrooms and communal lounges on each of the two upper floors. All bedrooms have en-suite toilet and wash hand basin facilities. What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received since the last Annual Service Review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service within the requested time. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people using the service. The AQAA is a legal requirement; it also gives us some numerical information about the service. The previous inspection report of 13 March 2009. What the service has told us about the things that have occurred in the service these are notifications and are a legal requirement. What other people have told us through their surveys. We received three surveys from people living at Bracebridge Court and three from their relatives. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment within the required timescales; the home manager completed this. The information in the AQAA was clear and provided us with all of the information we asked for. We were told how the home ensures that people who use the service are consulted on things that matter to them. For example, The AQAA tells us of changes they intend to make in the coming twelve months; - Residents and staff are working towards the re-creation of a 1940s Christmas. - During 2010/11 we will be giving particular focus to the purpose and location of our short stay facility which has been increased from 7 to 8 beds. This will probably involve an upstairs short stay suite and creating a higher dependency unit on the ground floor. Residents favour this approach but its implementation may depend on the current national economic climate and inevitable pressures on public spending. - We will continue to seek and resolve storage problems which so far has not been sorted due to financial limitations. - We will continue to ensure that we raise the necessary funds to maintain our own mini bus which is an integral part in having a very successful activities programme. - Maintain a very active dialogue with service users staff and relatives with regard to extra care which is now a closer prospect with plans available for viewing at the local Borough Councils planning department. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 - In order to maintain residents interests we intend to produce end of year financial accounts for the shop and bar and add to our accountability to them. They told us how they had met Equality and Diversity. This includes; - All service plans are written with individual service users and the overall objective is to ensure that this is reflective of the individual needs and preferences of service users, recognising equality and diversity. - The service plan template encourages exchange of information between service users and Bracebridge Court staff so that we can endeavour to meet these needs accordingly and/or develop our service where they are lacking. - The new All about me Support Plan and the wider care plan system under development will be more accessible in a format that will encourage staff to use the system with the person in a way that will improve the individual outcome for the service user and greater involvement of staff in understanding the person concerned. - Staff are provided with training that promotes an understanding and awareness of equality and diversity issues. All staff have received such training. - Our recruitment process follows the Department Equal Opportunities Policy, and the requirements to meet National Standards set by CSCI. However, in the North Warwickshire population only 0.01 of the local population is not White British, and similarly all residents are of White British origin, as are staff. - Our activities are organised in order to meet the gender expectation of residents The AQAA tells they have had one complaint in the last twelve months, which was investigated appropriately. People told us in the surveys that they know who to speak to if they have any concerns. No complaints have been made to us about the service. The service tells us that they follow their recruitment procedures in seeking references and completing safety checks to make sure that suitable staff are employed. We were told that 20 care staff have achieved a minimum of level two in the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in care. This means that staff should have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide a good standard of support to the people who live there. We received three completed surveys from people who live at the home. They told us that they are treated well and can make decisions about what they do each day. Comments included: It is a homely home and on the whole, food is good. Would like more activities relevant to me and my likes. I am quite satisfied with everything. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 We received three completed surveys from relatives of people who live at Bracebridge Court. They told us they are satisfied with the care provided at the home. Additional comments made included: The care of my relative is excellent, she feels that Bracebridge is her home. The staff are all really friendly and the food is really good. I have no complaints about the home. I would like to commend the excellent work X does as activity person. When she is on duty the residents are motivated and there is something to look forward to in their long day. Staff cope extremely well considering the resources available. Management are helpful and always ready to listen and talk. Carers are wonderful and very helpful. It has a homely welcome which the residents appreciate. We did not receive any surveys back from staff who work at the home. We have looked at all the information available to us and in our judgement the service continues to provide an excellent service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 13 March 2012. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
