Calvert Trust Kielder provides holiday accommodation and activities specifically for people with disabilities. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The home sent us information this included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Have your say surveys from people who use the service, staff and supporting health professionals. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Surveys were sent out and good responses were received, five guests, three relatives/carers and four staff surveys were returned. Comments from people who use the service included most staff treat me well I liked my food and activities would like the staff to be more understanding some of the staff are very good I will be back again next time thank you for the fun I enjoyed myself at Kielder see you soon I have choice carers always ask if I would like a shower etc. they are empowering me to make my own decision, every decision I make they respect it wish there was more activities to do in the evening I enjoy the activities and feel safe on them the carers put their selves in my position the training is superb and everyone is trained to a high standard everything is there that you need food was great everyone was really nice and helpful enjoyed the activities more overhead ceiling hoists would make it better good care, nice activities my favourites are water sports I like coming here doing climbing and water sports. Relatives and carers commented the staff are very welcoming the rooms are clean Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 and comfortable clients are involved from the time they are arrive, they can choose to join in the food is excellent diaries are kept so that we know what they have been doing during their break I know if there was a problem we would be contacted so feel happy about leaving our son there to experience activities we cannot give him all staff are very pleasant they have a fantastic time and have been seven times and are already planning next years visit great care is given to know what support and help he will need during his stay friendly staff are always available and he is kept well informed about the activities on offer. Staff commented it is our mission to enable people with disabilities together with their families and friends to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside we remind our guests that it is not what they cant do but what they can that counts I think we all work very well together we strive to keep improving and providing good quality and high standards of care to individuals support guests in being independent to encourage confidence and social interaction with others. The home has informed CQC of any events that have happened since our last key inspection and there have been no cause for concern. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by October 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
